Flourinert Chillers cleaned
Hi Folks This morning all 3 flourinert chiller condensers (endcap, barrel and spare) were cleaned by Svend Jensen from HVAC. Since the endcap and barrel chillers were on during the whole down time and with the LCLS construction right next door throwing all kinds of rubbish up in the air, there was considerable amounts of particulate matter in them. The spare, on the other hand, had been off the whole down and so was relatively free of this dust and dirt. Anyway, all three are clean, working properly and should be ready to go for the upcoming run. Incidentally, because of the massive Earth moving due to the LCLS construction, the fact that the chillers are constantly on, and with the problems that the DRC had during the down due the dirt in the air, Nicolas Arnaud suggested that maybe in the future we might want to think about having the chillers cleaned at more frequent intervals. As I currently understand, the chillers are cleaned about every 6 months. If the dirt in the air is becoming more of a problem in the future we may want to think about having them cleaned every 3/4 months. During the summer when the door is opened and the temp outside is high, the chillers will be running at a higher load than during the down so this may be good to look into.

Reconnection of service lines after yoke removal
This morning Mike Racine and his crew finished rerouting the EMC plumbing to its' pre-down time status. The barrel nitrogen lines and the water cooling pipes were completed last night with great success. The water chiller was off for a little over an hour and came right back to life and is running just as before. This morning they reattached the Endcap Flourinert cooling lines and the Source Cal lines. Again this was done with great success. The chiller was turned off for a little over an hour again. When restarted everything looked like it did before. The endcap electronics were turned off for this and are now back on and functioning properly. Thanks to Mike R. and his crew for a job well done.
